Class Overview
Looking for ways to design modern quilts in EQ8? This class will focus on utilizing the EQ8 tools and features to design quilts with negative space, alternative grids, and multiple-sized blocks.

- Building a quilt from scratch on a Custom Set layout

About EQ Academy
EQ Academy is a 3-day event for students wanting to learn how to use their EQ8 software. EQ8 classes are either half day (3 hours) or full day (6 hours) with an hour lunch break in between sessions. Each instructor brings years of experience and will provide practical content for the use of software.
How to fill your days: It is not required that you attend all days of the event. You may enroll in as many classes as you like. If you do plan to attend all days, we recommend filling your days with as many classes as you can. Click here to see a complete schedule (PDF) of all the classes being offered.
These are EQ8 computer classes. There will be no sewing during class time.
Required for All Classes
Please be sure you have the following for class:
- Face mask* that completely covers nose and mouth (*click to review all COVID protocols)
- Laptop with EQ8 software installed, updated, and validated
- Laptop power cord
- Mouse (The touch pad on your laptop will work, but having an external mouse makes drawing much easier.)
- Extra batteries for your mouse, if wireless
- Mouse pad
- Pen and paper for taking notes
- Sweater or light jacket (classroom temperature can vary)
Included with Enrollment
The Electric Quilt Company will provide the following for all enrolled students:
- Coffee, tea, and water throughout the day
- Snacks (fruit, granola, candy)
- Daily boxed lunches
- Giveaways!
- In-class assistance from EQ staff
- Personal technical support between classes
- Student discount on EQ products for sale during the event
- Free wifi during class hours
Location
Hotel
Lodging and travel are not included in the cost of the workshop. You must make your own arrangements.
We have a block of rooms at the Home2 Suites by Hilton (walking distance from the classrooms) for $129.00/night + tax. View this hotel on a map. Once you have enrolled at EQ Academy, you will receive a confirmation of your enrollment with a special link for the hotel, as well as other hotel and travel suggestions.
Due to COVID, we do not encourage sharing rooms or shuttle services with other students.
The best airport options would be Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), which is about an hour away or the Toledo Express Airport (TOL) which is about 25 minutes away.
